Stay active on your vacation!

Hold dig aktiv på din ferie!

Here are some tips to stay active on vacation without compromising on relaxation:

Start the day with a run If you love to experience new places on foot, bring your running shoes and start the day with a refreshing run. It's a good way to get an overview of the area, and the new surroundings make it more fun, so you don't feel the tiredness in your legs like at home. Should you get lost, take it as part of the adventure – and remember, Google Maps is always there to help.

Pack light exercise equipment Bring light and portable training equipment such as an exercise mat, elastic bands or a suspension trainer. They take up minimal space in your suitcase, don't cost a fortune and allow you to get an effective workout, regardless of where you are.

Think creatively If your hotel has a gym, you're in luck! But if not, there are plenty of creative ways to exercise. Use the stairs at the hotel for a quick HIIT workout or take a swim in the pool – preferably early, before it fills up with toddlers. Are you at the beach? Try lifting stones as weights or find a stable bar for pull-ups. If you're really looking for something different, go for a brisk run at the local dog park (although it might lead to some funny situations!).

Eat healthy - but also enjoy life Even if you are on holiday, it is possible to eat healthy. Be sure to include lean protein, fruit, vegetables and healthy fats in your meals. Remember to drink plenty of water and pay attention to portion sizes. But also remember that it's a holiday - so allow yourself to taste the local specialties and enjoy it.

Get enough protein Proteins are important for muscle building after exercise. You can either pack your protein powder and risk a bit of fun at security, or you can enjoy the hotel buffet with lots of eggs, sausages and bacon – everything you need to get your protein intake to the top.

Bodyweight exercises everywhere Bodyweight exercises like push-ups, squats, lunges, burpees and planks require no equipment and can be done anywhere. Do a short circuit training with 30-60 second intervals per exercise and minimal rest in between, then you quickly get through an effective workout.

Remember to drink water It is important to stay hydrated, especially in the heat. Signs of dehydration include fatigue, headache and muscle cramps, so make sure you drink plenty of water. If you find yourself somewhere with coconuts, coconut water is a good choice as it contains important electrolytes such as potassium, calcium and magnesium.

Involve family and friends Make the training social by inviting your traveling companions along. It can be more fun to train together and gives you the opportunity to spend quality time in an active way.

Remember to relax! It's a holiday, so remember to also take it easy and enjoy the moment. Be flexible with your training and use the holidays as an opportunity to try new forms of activity. The most important thing is to keep going and have fun.

Happy holidays!
